The Kansas City Chiefs are headed back to the Super Bowl for the second consecutive season after defeating the Buffalo Bills 38-24 in the AFC title game.
Showing no lingering effects from his concussion, Patrick Mahomes came out and delivered excellence against the Buffalo Bills. The reigning Super Bowl MVP threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns.
Mahomes connected with both Tyreek Hill (9 receptions) and Travis Kelce (13 receptions) for a combined 22 times.
Kelce finished the game with 13 receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns — His 13 receptions are a franchise postseason record. Hill also broke another franchise postseason record by producing 172 receiving yards.
The Chiefs defense played great as they held the league-leading receiver in yards, Stefon Diggs, to just six catches for 77.
Josh Allen, who had his worst game of the season against the Chiefs in a week six loss, again struggled against the reigning defending champions. He finished the game with 287 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
The Bills had a 9-0 lead early in the game. Mecole Hardman muffled a first quarter punt and fumbled, which led to the Bills getting the early lead.
That’s when the Chiefs went on a 28-3 run and never looked back. The Bills could never regain control of the game.
The Chiefs will now take on Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay on February 7th. Kansas City beat the Buccaneers 27-24 during the regular season.
This will be the fifth matchup between one of the greatest quarterback of all-time (Brady) and one of today’s youngest stars of the league (Mahomes), but this certainly will be the most important one of them all.
