Luke Wypler is technically sound, strong, fluid, and high motor center in this upcoming 2023 NFL draft. Wypler had 1700 snaps, which only yielded 1 sack at Ohio State; his power and leverage against top competition nullified any threat of pass rush in the interior of the offensive line.
Strengths
Luke Wypler displays proper technique and fluid hips by extending to block the correct shoulder of pass rusher to create a lane or angle to block. Displays leverage and power while anchoring to nullify pass rush near the quarterback to give his signal caller a clean pocket, with explosive violent take off while initiating contact to defender. Wyler demonstrates football I.Q by understanding stunts and being patient when pass rusher is beating or gaining leverage on the guard; in which Wypler will chip block the pass rusher by extending and initiating contact. Physical and mobile in running plays to pull and block on 1st and 2nd level of defense. Dominates against elite competition at the college level by blocking Jalen Carter from Georgia by showing leverage, explosive violent blocks upon contact, and power by anchoring and keeping Jalen Carter from disrupting the interior of the pass protection. Wypler also matched up with Mazi Smith Defensive tackle from Michigan, who is one of the strongest defensive lineman in college football; meanwhile displaying power, leverage, and mobility.
Weakness
- Size for some teams won’t be ideal.
- Wing span is not the the best. However, technique and the position of center does not have a major need of wingspan in the interior.
Overview
Luke Wypler is all around center with football I.Q, mobility, motor, power, technique, and leverage. Day 1 starter with few limitations or weaknesses to his game and dominated against elite athletes in the interior. Wypler can play in any scheme and dominate, but his skill set fits best in a zone scheme with his mobility and understanding of blocking a certain area or gap in protection/run game.
