The deal is done. Aaron Rodgers is headed to the big apple, where he will suit up for the New York Jets in 2023. After much speculation, Rodgers made it clear back in March on the Pat McAfee show his desire to play for the Jets.
“I made it clear my intention was to play and to play for the New York Jets, and I haven’t been holding anything up. It’s the compensation that the Packers are trying to get. The Packers want to move on and have let me know that in so many words,” he said.
The Packers and Jets have been in this situation before. Back in 2008, Packers legend and hall-of-fame quarterback Brett Favre was traded to the Jets for a conditional draft pick. Now Favre’s successor will suit up for gang green.
Trade details reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter
Jets receive – Aaron Rodgers, a 2023 first-round pick (No. 15 overall), and a 2023 fifth-round pick (No. 170 overall)
Packers receive – a 2023 first-round pick (No. 13 overall), a 2023 second-round pick (No. 42), a 2023 sixth-round pick (No. 207), and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65% of the plays this season.
Now that this move and trade has been made. It certainly spices things up with the NFL draft just three days away.
