UCF Wide Receiver Marlon Williams is the most physical pass catcher in the 2021 draft, breaking numerous tackles and stiff arming defenders to the ground. Marlon had 7 touchdowns in the wildcat formation, rushing by absorbing contact while powering his way to the end zone. In 2020, Marlon caught 71 passes for 1,039 yards and 10 touchdowns, with 14.6 yards per catch. Marlon’s toughness and ball security is displayed by the fact that he has never fumbled in his college career, despite lowering his shoulder and taking on multiple defenders. Marlon is viewed as a possession receiver by having strong secure hands and being able to make tough, contested catches using his 6’0″, 215 pound frame. In addition, Marlon can get deep and catch passes at a high point and, although he does not have blazing speed, he does run precise routes.

Athleticism: 7.7. Has strength and power to run over safeties, corners, and linebackers, with good enough speed to get yards after catch.

Hands/Ball Adjustment: 8.3. Strong, reliable hands to catch away from his body and be able to absorb attempted tackles while holding on to the ball in contested catches. Has ability to catch lob passes and adjust to underthrown, sideline, and tight coverage catches as well.

Route running/Release: 8.0. Runs precise routes and will use his strength in tight man coverage to outmuscle Defensive Backs before the 5 yard mark in order to get off the line.

Yards After Catch: 8.7. Will run over Defensive Backs or stiff arm defenders to the ground. Marlon will lower his shoulder and keep his legs pumping to push for extra yards, and he will take on multiple defenders as a power Running Back would.

Player Comparison: Marlon’s skill set reminds me of Anquan Boldin and Golden Tate.

Overall, Marlon Williams can line up at the Z and slot positions, and he will be the most dangerous on short and intermediate routes (such as crossing, bubble screen, slant, and in routes), with him running over defenders or lowering his shoulder to fight for those extra yards on 3rd and short downs. Marlon’s hands are strong and he can be relied on to catch passes in double coverage or even post routes, in areas where collisions are likely possible.
