Just Win Maybe? The Promising Offseason Isn’t Transitioning on the Field for the Raiders

What seemed to be a promising season for the Las Vegas Raiders has quickly turned into a Nightmare. Last season the team made the playoffs with interim Head Coach, Rich Bisaccia, and it seemed like the Raiders were heading in the right direction. During the 2022 offseason, Mark Davis hired New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator, Josh McDaniels, to be the next Head Coach to hopefully turn the Raiders into championship contenders. The Raiders also made key offseason additions on the defensive side of the ball signing Defensive End, Chandler Jones formerly of the Arizona Cardinals, and trading for Super Star Wide receiver Davante Adams of the Green Bay Packers.

Raider Nation thought this team would make a strong push to the Playoffs with what seemed to be an improved roster from last year. So far this season, the Raiders are 2-6, which includes THREE blown double-digit losses. The team seems to collapse during the second half of games. Rather its coaching or learning a new system, the Raiders are just not getting it done. Everyone deserves a little bit of the blame.

On Tuesday, the Raiders cut Safety Johnathan Abram after failing to be able to trade him before the Trade Deadline. The former first-round pick had some bright spots during his Raider stint but was another first-round pick failure. To add insult to injury, Las Vegas placed TE Darren Waller and WR Hunter Renfrow both on IR this week. They will miss at least the next four games and are eligible to return when the Raiders visit the Super Bowl Champions, Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football.

What’s there to look forward to? Well, me being a person that likes to see the glass half full, the Raiders have a very winnable game this Sunday (been saying this for a couple of weeks) against what seems to be the football version of Barnaby and Bailey Circus, the Indianapolis Colts. After firing Head Coach, Frank Reich, who had a winning record as a Head Coach (41-35-1). Colts Owner, Jim Irsay named former Colts Center, Jeff Saturday as their interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season. Naming Saturday the interim Head coach, who only has coaching at the High School level, tells me they are not trying to win too many more games the remainder of the season. Perhaps their intention is to draft a Quarterback in the NFL Draft.

As bad as the Raiders have looked this season so far, one can argue that the Colts have looked worse. This Sunday could become a start to the Raiders turning their season around. THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE RAIDERS SHOULD LOSE TO THE COLTS. If for whatever reason the Raiders do lose to this team, I believe someone will be fired. I personally do not see this happening, but you never know with the 2022 Las Vegas Raiders.
