The Houston Texans took another bad loss today against the Cleveland Browns. The Texans lost 10-7 making them 2-7 for the season.
The Texans and the Browns both struggled on the offense side of the ball. Deshaun Watson threw for only 163 yards and 1 touchdown in the loss.
Baker Mayfield threw for 132 yards and a passer rating of 79 against the Texans and handing them their 7th loss of the season.
The Houston Texan’s inability to protect Deshaun Watson was a big reason why the Texans lost against the Browns. Deshaun Watson was sacked seven times today which led to his inability to throw the ball down the field.
Watson missed some key throws that could have changed the outcome of the game because of the offensive line’s inability to protect Watson.
The Texans offensive line has not been particularly good throughout the season. The offensive line must do a better job at protecting their quarterback if they want to finish the season strong.
Most of the teams that contend for championships understand that the quarterback is the most important position, and they must protect their franchise player.
Despite, the offense not playing it is the best today. The defense did not play its best as well. The defense allowed 231 rushing yards.
Nick Chubb rushed for 126 yards on 19 carries. He averaged 6.6 yards per carry.
The Texans defense has given up 30 or more points in 5 games they lost this season. The defense has been in issue this season.
The Texans are ranked 32nd in the NFL when giving up rushing yards. They cannot stop the run against any team.
Through 9 games of the season, the Texans defense has allowed 159.5 rush yards.
Stopping the run is there Achilles hill and they must improve on slowing down the run for the remainder of the season.
Despite, the weather playing a huge factor. Deshaun Watson said “said the weather was a factor in the game but I don’t want to sit here and say that was the reason why we didn’t capitalize. We just did not make enough plays”.
The Texans did not play enough up-tempo today lost. When your offense is not clicking or cannot get into a rhythm. Speeding the tempo up can sometimes give your offense the spark that it needs.
Watson also said, “that he’s going to keep his head held up high and he’s going to keep grinding to the last second”.
If the Texans want to improve as a team and towards the future, they must build more towards their quarterback because Watson if they do not protect Watson more there’s a possible chance that he can get hurt.
The Houston Texans will be playing the New England Patriots next week at home. The Texans are looking to get the win and improving their record to 3-7 for the season.
