Strengths: Rondale Moore is an extremely shifty and quick player. Moore is a threat to score every time the ball is in his hands. He has great footwork and quick feet, displaying a great ability to make tacklers miss and avoid them all together. To see the extent of what Moore can do, look no further than his game against Ohio State in 2018. He single-handedly took over the game for Purdue. His best trait is the fact that he is truly a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Moore is an extremely flashy player, and fits the “Tyreek Hill” mold that every team has been looking for since he broke onto the scene. Moore creates a good amount of separation from DBs using his speed and shiftiness as well as his good start/stop ability. He has good balance and body awareness as well. Moore displays good footwork right off the line, and also shows a good football IQ, knowing what to do when the play breaks down. Moore also can be an impact player in both the kick and punt return game.
Weaknesses: Injuries, Injuries, Injuries. It’s unfortunate, but Moore has played in seven games over the past two years, four in 2019 and three in 2020. I have very little trust that Moore can stay on the field healthy for a full season. I cannot vouch for drafting a player to be my number one target if I can’t trust him to be on the field every week. His stature, 5’9″ 180 lbs, won’t help him stay healthy either. I don’t think that Moore is a super sharp route runner either; I think he relies too much on his shiftiness to get open, and may struggle to get open against elite corners. Another big issue with Moore is that he often takes his eyes off the ball and drops passes and lets them either go through his hands or bounce right off.
Bottom Line: People seem to be pretty split on Moore. To me, the negatives outweigh the positives. Sure, he is explosive and dangerous with the ball in his hands, but I don’t see the elite speed that other scouts see in him. I do agree that he has a high upside. My biggest issues with him are injuries and drops. I can’t get behind a WR that I’m worried will struggle to stay healthy and be on the field, and at the same time, I also have to worry that he may have some drops. Moore isn’t a guy I’m willing to put my trust into, especially in a draft with so many great WRs. I’m not a fan of Moore, but if he can stay healthy and improve his hands, I do see a path to a pretty successful career.
