Teven Jenkins has become one of my favorite Offensive Linemen in this draft class. Coming out of Oklahoma State, Jenkins started for 3 seasons but also played in all 12 games in his freshman year in 2017, so he comes in with lots of experience. He blocked for a 2000 yard rusher (Chuba Hubbard) in 2019 as well. Let’s hop into Jenkins’ scouting report.
Strengths: Teven Jenkins is a bad man. In his film, you can see that Jenkins has a huge mean streak, and it seems like his goal is to not just beat his opponent but to also drive them into the ground. Jenkins displays great both upper and lower body strength and power, rarely getting controlled by his opponent. He also displays a great frame, standing at 6’6″ and weighing 320lbs. His strength allows him to anchor well in the pass game, and he has the ability to simply throw Defensive Linemen off to the side. Jenkins is very quick off the ball, as he is almost always the first off the line of scrimmage. At the point of attack, Jenkins possesses a strong punch, often neutralizing the pass rusher. Jenkins is very technically sound, as he displays a really nice ability to counter hand fighting by Defensive Line. Jenkins is also athletic for his size, displaying solid lateral athleticism and also having the ability to protect both the inside and the outside gaps. He has shown that he can mirror Defensive Linemen well, as he counters their movement. Jenkins shows a good ability to get to the second level, block linebackers, and pull and block while moving. Jenkins will benefit the most in a power running scheme, where he can utilize his power and tenacity; that being said, I think he will be successful in any scheme.
Weaknesses: Although Jenkins stands at 6’6″, there are some concerns about his length. His arms did measure in right below 33” (32 ⅞”, to be exact), so he may struggle against super long pass rushers. That being said, I think Jenkins can overcome those issues due to his strength and hand technique. One national scout was reported saying that Jenkins “may quit on you”, but I don’t think the tape shows that. Mel Kiper Jr. endorsed Jenkins’ work ethic, saying “On a scale of 1-10, he’s a 10”. Due to his height, he needs to work on sinking his butt and lowering his pad level, as both can get too high at times. I do like Jenkins’ lateral athleticism, but he can kick too far outside in pass protection at times. He also lacks the footwork to correct himself, occasionally giving up the inside lane, but coaching should help prevent that.
Bottom Line: Teven Jenkins is an underrated prospect at the Tackle position. I love his aggressive play and mean streak. He displays great power and strength in both the run and pass games. He displays really good athleticism for his size, moving well laterally and also being able to get to the second level. He has some little refinements in his game that he can improve on, but he is pretty technically sound overall. I think Jenkins has a very high ceiling at Right Tackle.
