Victor Tucker – Junior – Wide Receiver, Charlotte

Pros: Good balance and shows a good ability to extend for the ball on sidelines and when coming back to the ball on comeback routes. Has some quick feet and showed some good YAC ability with smart lanes and good vision. Has solid hands and makes good adjustments to the ball in the air. Good focus for the ball and ensures that he brings it in before turning up-field, has good control when the ball comes in during contested catches. Does not dance around when he has space, does have some quick feet to make use of tighter spaces to get extra yards. Competed hard on each play I observed and had good success in contested catches in the red/end zone.

Cons: Is an average athlete in C-USA, unlikely to be anything above below average at the NFL level. Does not have explosive speed or quickness, while he showed some quick feet at times it does not translate to creating great separation on routes or making big plays downfield consistently. Lacks some fluidity in his route running and did not have a lot of ‘pop’ when making cuts in or out. Lacks playing strength and does not offer much in the way of special teams due to a lack of speed and strength. Does not instinctively cover the ball when running downfield, will be an issue at the pro level. Lacks explosiveness when jumping for the ball and mostly succeeded on the defender being out of position.

Summary: Victor Tucker had great production in his Sophomore season at Charlotte building off a strong Freshman season, highlighted by some excellent touchdown and sideline catches. He was utilized in both the slot and lining up on the outside, in wide receiver jet sweeps and screens. Tucker looks a bit undersized for his height at 5’11” but does have some potential to move inside or out. He appears to lack both speed and quickness to make a splash at the pro level, he is not explosive enough to break away from defenders and is not shifty enough to shake tough coverage. He has good hands and plays contested catches well by repositioning himself. Runs routes mostly well, showed some good footwork but was not anything special. He was able to make sideline grabs by setting his feet and extending himself, showcasing some impressive balance. I don’t think Tucker has the athleticism to get himself drafted, though with exceptional production this year he could likely be a priority undrafted free agent with a chance to compete for a depth position. He had some kick returns but I don’t think he offers enough on special teams to separate himself.

Projection: 7th Rd – Priority Free Agent
